Cara Fullerton – Figure Competitor

Cara Fullerton - Figure Competitor

Cara Fullerton, a Figure Competitor with a STRONG passion for Fitness. A true Ambassador of the Sport!

Cara’s experience in Fitness is quite INSPIRATIONAL! Here’s what she had to share with MuscleBombshell.com

1. Briefly share with us your background (Education, Interests, etc.)?

I’m a 42-year-old woman who is just tapping into her passion! I am currently a TV news anchor and reporter for Global TV in Calgary, Alberta. I’ve been in the TV news industry for almost 11 years.

Previous to that I was Computer Analyst for about 10 years. So it’s no surprise that I’m working on a third career. This time in the fitness industry.

On top of my full time job, I teach group fitness classes and I’m working towards becoming a certified personal trainer. I’ve always been active and into sports throughout grade school and post secondary education. But it has only been since 2007 that I took it to another level. That year I did my first fitness competition. Since then I’ve done 6 more.

2. Who has inspired you the most to succeed as a Fitness Competitor?

There are a lot of people who have inspired me in fitness as a whole … not just as a fitness competitor. The two that stand out the most: Jari Love and Sandra Bueckert.

Jari Love is a fitness professional, gym co-owner, author, and creator of an amazing fitness DVD series called Get Ripped. Even with all that on her plate she’s still teaching fitness classes 5 to 6 days a week! She really believes in me and pushed me to pursue my group fitness certification. She took me under her wing, practiced with me and at times threw me into the wolves. And I’m forever grateful.

Sandra has also been in the fitness industry for over 20 years. I trained in her fitness studio for my very first fitness competition. I remember she took me to the grocery store and taught me how to read labels and make healthy choices. I learned a lot that day. She’s a hard worker and is all about education. She started bodybuilding back in the day when gyms weren’t fancy and everything was cold hard steel. Now she not only trains people she also educates them so they can learn to live a healthy lifestyle even when they’re not at the gym. Education is power!

3. What competitions have you made appearances in? From these, what were your placements (titles won)?

  • May 2007 -FAME – Fitness Model Masters – 4th place
  • August 2007 – INBA – Figure Open – Overall
  • August 2008 – INBA – Figure Open – 3rd
  • May 2010 – IDFA – Figure Masters Tall – 1st
  • May 2011 – IDFA – Figure Masters Tall – 2nd, Figure Open Tall – 3rd

4. When is your next upcoming show? What will be your competing class?

I haven’t decided when or if I will compete again. I have so many other fitness pursuits I’m working on or dreaming about. I want to continue to improve my “everyday” physique, endurance, and strength. Plus, I want to motivate and inspire people to get active in their own unique way. With my career background in TV and my passion for fitness, my BIG DREAM is to host and produce my own fitness/health/wellness show.

Figure competitions have taught me so much and I’ve met some amazing people along the way. I absolutely love the journey to the stage and the relationships built while training. I will never say never to competing. However, fitness competitions are just a small part of what I want to pursue when it comes to fitness, health and wellness.
