Sarah Yim – IDFA Pro Fitness Model

Sarah Yim just received her IDFA Pro card this year. She is an incredible athlete with an extensive athletic background. Amazingly beautiful, Sarah has a bright future ahead of her in the fitness industry.

1. Briefly share with us your background (Education, Interests, etc.)?

My background is quite diverse – I was a competitive swimmer from a young age for about 8 years, and then I moved onto competitive springboard diving.  I excelled in both, and was the 2005 BC Summer Diving Provincials Gold Medalist in my age group.  After that, I ended my competitive diving career and focused on coaching springboard diving, which I still do to this day.  I absolutely love working with youth and helping them maximize their potential.

During my tenure at the University of British Columbia (2005-2009) I joined the Varsity cheerleading team as a flyer; this is where my passion for cheerleading and gymnastics started.  Since then I’ve been a part of 3 different competitive cheerleading teams, competing locally and internationally.

In 2008, I got in contact with one of the top leading supplement companies, Gaspari Nutrition, and landed a coveted position as a demo representative for them in Vancouver, BC.  My passion for fitness and competing has sparked from this day forward and I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a great company.

Being in the bodybuilding industry is never a dull moment, I have met so many great people and has inspired me in other ways, such as publishing an undergraduate thesis in fulfillment of my Sociology Honours degree titled  “Sexuality & Bodybuilding: The Message Behind the Muscle”.

2. Who has inspired you the most to succeed as a Fitness Competitor?

My inspiration to succeed as a fitness competitor comes from those who choose to compete in fitness, rookie or veteran!  It’s not just the dieting and training regime, but on top of that, performing a 1 minute and 30 sec high-energy routine comprised of strength, flexibility, agility and choreography when you’re carb depleted…twice (morning & evening show)!

It is no easy feat and takes a lot of commitment, but so worth the end result.  Moreover, I have a great circle of friends and family and of course, Team Gaspari, that give me a TON of support in pursuit of my fitness goals.  It makes it that much easier to get through the gruelling training when you have everyone behind you!

3. What competitions have you made appearances in? From these, what were your placements (titles won)?

This is my first year competing in Fitness & Fitness Model categories and I am thrilled with my results, excited to see what the future holds for me.

  • 2011 IDFA BC Classic – 1st Place & Overall Fitness Model *Professional status awarded
  • 2011 BCABBA Kelowna Western Canadians – 2nd Place Fitness Short

4. When is your next upcoming show? What will be your competing class?

My next show will not be until July 2012 at the BCABBA Provincials in Fitness, Short Class.  I am working with choreographers to bring a more challenging and energetic routine, one that the judges will be wowed with!

I love performing on stage and am looking forward to a great off-season building my strength and improving on weak areas, specifically endurance.  What better way to train for that than by competing in my first triathlon in March 2012!

5. Where can fans find out more about you (website, published magazines, etc.)?

If there’s one thing I’m terrible at, it’s the technological stuff like setting up twitter, personal website etc.!  You can find me currently at:
