I am proud to share with you an interview with Adriana Cesar. An amazing fitness professional and powerful motivator.

1: Tell us a little about yourself

I have been an athlete and playing sports since a very young age. I was first introduced to tumbling and gymnastics at the age of five. Since I am a first-generation American from Brazil, soccer has also been a staple in my life. I was heavily involved in sports, including competitive basketball throughout high school and into college. After graduation, I returned to the gym and hit it hard. I came out of college weighing 175 pounds.

I was determined to never let myself go like that again. Then I faced a health dilemma: In the Fall of 2006, I was hit with severe flank pain on my right side; I was admitted to the hospital and was immediately operated on; I was so scared and devastated! Come to find out, I had a serve kidney infection which caused my right kidney to swell and not dilate. I was in the hospital for two weeks and throughout the next two years I battled back. I got back in the
gym and focused on getting my health back. I looked to my friend and personal trainer, Jenna Zava, who rehabbed and trained me for about two years, using power yoga and strength and circuit training.

2: What inspires you?

My inspiration and drives comes from inside of me; Progress is the greatest motivator – Striving to be the BEST ME. The desire to get better all the time is what drives me.

There are a lot of people out there who are looking for their motivation! It’s not for sale at the store.  So I set my personal goals and determined what tasks and assignments I need to tackle to get to my destination.

I have a competitiveness side that seeks to be the best. Now that I have some success and accomplishments under my belt, I recognize how to harness this drive so I can use it to motivate and inspire others.  Anyone can achieve their goals and dreams—they just need the drive to get there. Go for your dreams!! You can accomplish anything with hard work and discipline. That’s how I am living my dream.

3: What shows have you competed in?

I’ve competed in 7 shows total within 2 years of my competitive career. When I do decide to hit the stage again I will return back to the National Physique Committee (NPC).  Below are the shows I have
competed in:

  • 2009 OCB Eastern Regional – Fitness Model Division / 6th place
  • 2009 Musclemania Fitness Capitol Show – Bikini division
  • 2009 NPC Virginia Gran Prix Bodybuilding, Figure, and Bikini Championships – Bikini Division / 1st place
  • 2009 Maryland NPC –Bikini Division / 2nd place
  • 2009 NPC Team Universe Bodybuilding, Figure, Fitness and Bikini – Bikini Division / 7th place
  • 2010 NPC Pittsburgh Championships – Figure Division / 14th place
  • 2010 NPC Tracey Greenwood Show – Figure Division / 2nd place

4: What are you doing now?

Staying busy – This year I took a break from competing and got back into participating in my local communities here in the Baltimore / DC Metro areas. However I did compete in a mud-crawling, fire-leaping,
extreme 5k called Warrior Dash (http://warriordash.com/) – great
experience.

One of the ways I participate in my communities is being a Brand Ambassador for Lululemon
(http://www.lululemon.com/bethesda/bethesda/ambassadors/AdrianaCesar). As a Lululemon Ambassador I participate in their charitable events
and promote relationships within the communities. I also share my knowledge about health and fitness and hopefully in the near future I will be hosting my own charitable event.  Currently I am also studying to get my NASM certification within the next month.

And recently this year became an OhYeah! ISS Research Spokesmodel Ambassador
(http://www.issresearch.com/index.php)
I would like to make a name for myself in the fitness industry and am working on becoming a brand. And of course, my dream is to help people locally, nationally and hopefully worldwide to achieve their fitness, health and nutrition goals. I am working on my personal website, plus creating a community blog site where I can communicate with others,
using social media tools to help them with diet, training, products, etc.

Anything else to add…

I was the FMI Model of the month in the April 2011 issue of IRONMAN Magazine.
