Tell us a little about yourself?

I was born and raised in a small town in the mountains– Pinetop, Arizona. I graduated from high school when I was 16 and moved to the city to attend school at Arizona State University, where I am currently studying Exercise and Wellness.  I am now 18, so this fall will be my third year here.  When I am not at school or doing homework, you can find me at the gym or doing some other physical activity (hiking, yoga) , experimenting in the kitchen with different foods trying to make healthier versions of my favorite dishes  or hanging out with my friends and family.  I truly have a passion for health and wellness  and I want people to be inspired by my actions to live a healthy life.

What inspired you to start competing?

I kind of just “fell” into competing.  I have always loved going to the gym and throwing around the weights, but my diet was never 100% clean. So, last year I started reading numerous articles about training and proper nutrition  and I made the decision to start eating 100% clean.  After choosing to do so, I immediately began seeing results, and friends from the gym started asking me if I was getting ready for a competition.  At the time, I had no idea what these “competitions” even were!  Coincidentally, there was a local show coming up and many people told me that I should at least try it out.  About a week before the show, I spontaneously decided that I should compete and see what the shows were like.  I learned the poses within a few days, gathered competition necessities and I jumped on stage that weekend!  It was a completely new experience for me, I loved it!

What shows have you done and what was the outcome?

  • NPC Terminator- Tucson: 1st Teen Figure , 2nd Women’s Open Figure
  • NPC Arizona Open- 1st Teen Figure, 2nd Women’s Open Figure
  • NPC Pacific USA’s 2011- 1st Women’s Open Figure, Overall Winner

Choosing the Perfect Suit

Finding the right bikini/figure suit can be just as important as your diet and training program. You have worked hard for months and now need to present your physique in the best way possible.  I have some great information for you given to us by an amazing and talented suit designer Jen Whitfield of A Suit to Remember.

Jen has been designing suits since 2006. She believes you should have top-notch quality and a stress free experience.  I found Jen through a friend a few years ago. I had a malfunction in my suit and had to have a back up suit sewn immediately.  The part that impressed me the most was how fast Jen got my suit to me. It was done quickly and perfectly.

A competitor herself, Jen understands the stress that can be experienced when waiting for your suit to be made. She doesn’t believe a suit should be sent to you the week of your show and she wants to make the process as fun and stress free as possible. Here is some great information that she shares with us:

Consider Your Budget:

Be realistic on how much you are willing to spend. There are suits that are available in every price range. There is also the option of purchasing a used suit or renting a suit. Check with your suit maker for these options.

Choosing a Color:

Every person can wear any color; it is just a matter of finding the right hue for you. If you choose a color you like, you will appear more comfortable and confident on stage. The current trend is brighter colors but again go with what looks best on you.

What are Different Styles of Suits?

The primary cut of choice for bikini competitors is the scrunch butt bottoms with a triangle top. This looks great on most everyone.

The primary cut for Figure, Fitness, Physique and Female Bodybuilding is the V cut bottoms and triangle top.

A Glute Issue

One issue many women have is they want to cover too much of their glutes. You must follow the guidelines put in place by your organization but you want the minimum coverage allowed. The reason for this is: the more fabric covering the glutes, the larger the backside looks.

How far Out Should I Order a Custom Suit?

Most designers in the industry request a minimum of 6 weeks for a custom stones suit. Bikini suits, posing trunks and plain suits can typically be completed in 2-3 weeks.

How do I Order?

If you are looking to order a suit, contact the designer of your choice as they all work a little differently. If you would like to get a suit from A Suit to Remember, you can order via email, phone or go direectly to the website  @

Kim Dolan Leto – Fitness Cover Model

Someone asked me this week who my inspiration was. Honestly, I have many that inspire me but the one person I look up to most would have to be Fitness Cover Model Kim Dolan Leto.  She is a great role model who lives her life as a great example for women. I remember talking with her about how difficult it is sometimes to be a mom and an athlete. She had such compassionate words and amazingly helpful advice.  I love her positive attitude and outlook on life.

Kerri Bolen – Female Bodybuilder

Kerri has an amazine physique that she has showcased as a female bodybuilder, physique and figure competitor.  Read more about Kerri below:

Tell the readers a little bit about yourself:

I put God first in my life and then my family. I have a wonderful husband who not only works out with me, but supports me through all my competitions! He is a big help! I have a 20 year old son that is in the US Air Force and currently in Texas. I am very proud of him for choosing to serve his country. I also have a wonderful step son. He lives near us and keeps us laughing.  I am 44 years old and have been competing on and off for a while. My first competition was bodybuilding in 1989 and it was huge show – I didn’t place in the top five in that one.  I competed once in 2003 and then did not compete again until my soon was a lot older.  It takes dedication and hard work and that takes some away from family time.

What competitions have you done?

NPC Jr. USA –  05/21/2011

Physique Division, Class A – 8th place
This was the first EVER women’s physique show and I was THRILLED to come in 8th place out of 22 ladies. Dana Lynn Bailey actually won my class.
NPC Jen Hendershott’s All Womens’ Weekend/Big Shott Classic  – 10/21/2011
3rd place – Figure A, 5th place – Masters Figure
NPC Excalibur – 08/21/2010
2nd place – Masters Figure, 3rd place – Figure A
NPC Upstate Classic – 08/07/2010
1st place – Masters Figure, 2nd place – Figure A
NPC Palmetto Cup Bodybuilding – 03/2003
1st place –  Lightweight Division
SNBF Supernatural Bodybuilding – 04/2003

3rd place – Lightweight Division

What inspires/motivates you?

I love sculpting my body and with each competition, I try to show up in better condition.  I compete with myself to see if I can surpass my last show as far as results and conditioning. Having a competition to look forward to is the ultimate goal I need to just stay in great shape all year long. Other people motivate me also. I can’t mention them all, but I have so many friends that compete and they truly inspire me also.

I have been interviewed by the following sites:

Rate My Arms – 2011
Fit Gems Nation, 2011 – Fit Gem of the Month
Promoting Women in Bodybuilding, Fitness and MMA – 2011
Real Feats of Strength – 2011
Sashay Magazine – Featured in July 2011 issue

Anything else to add:
I will be going back to my roots this year, back to bodybuilding and will be competing in several natural shows starting in July and continuing in August and September – shooting for my Natural Pro Card.  Wish me luck!  I won’t stop until I get it!
I would like to thank Muscle Bombshell for the interview!
