1. Briefly share with us your background (Education, Interests, etc.)?

I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. I’m currently a 4th year Human Kinetics student at UBC Okanagan and plan on beginning my masters program next fall.

I also just recently attained my CPT certification last spring and hope to begin training clients in the near future.

I was a high level gymnast for 11 years. Soon after retiring from the sport in 2006 I joined the Ross Sheppard High School cheer team where I was their main tumbler for 2 years. Upon graduating high school I was then accepted onto the University of Miami Co-ed Cheer team for the 2008-2009 school year. It was an extremely rewarding experience and with the help of my coach, Joe Sanchez, I was introduced into Fitness competitions.

In addition to training and competing I love to volunteer. I am presently one of the assistant coaches for the Rutland Senior Secondary Cheer team, am a group leader for Mary Butterworth Junior High’s annual 4 day backpacking trip in Kananaskis, Alberta, and also enjoy working with the physio and occupational therapists at a local veteran’s retirement center in Edmonton.

2. Who has inspired you the most to succeed as a Fitness Competitor?

I have been inspired by so many individuals. The main one’s I have to mention are my parents and grandparents who have been there for me since day one. Others that are worth mentioning is my cheer coach from Miami who inspired me to try this sport, as well as my close friends who are constantly pushing me to strive for higher achievements.

3. What competitions have you made appearances in? From these, what were your placements (titles won)?

My first show was at the 2010 Alberta Southerns in Calgary, Alberta where I placed 1st in provincial fitness tall as well as winning the overall fitness title giving me a lifetime entry to Nationals. Two months later I competed at the 2010 CBBF Figure, Fitness, and Bikini Nationals in Toronto, Ontario where I placed 3rd in Fitness Tall.

I also just recently competed at this year’s CBBF Nationals that was in July where I unfortunately placed 10th in Fitness Tall. This placing however has been a blessing in disguise as I’m more motivated than ever to make the needed changes to my physique and routine and am ready to make an amazing comeback at Nationals next year!

4. When is your next upcoming show? What will be your competing class?

I’m currently set to compete in Fitness Tall at the CBBF Figure, Fitness, and Bikini Nationals in New Westminster, BC August 11, 2012. I am also debating on competing in Fitness Tall at the Natural Physique Championships being held in Winnipeg, Manitoba April 7th, 2012 however this will all depend on my school and exam schedule next semester.

5. Where can fans find out more about you (website, published magazines, etc.)?

As of right now I can be best reached on Facebook. Just message me! I’m also hoping on having my own website up and running within the next year so stay tuned!

Mercedes Gold – Fitness Competitor

Mercedes Gold – Fitness Competitor

A full time mom of 3 boys, Mercedes has experienced all aspects of fitness!

Read more about this Muscle Bombshell mom…

1. Briefly share with us your background(Education, Interests, etc.)?

I am a 40 year old fit mom of three Amazing mini men. Thanks to an amazing mother, I grew up in a home where fitness and healthy living were the norm. I started dancing at three and played many competitive sports, but I found my niche in competitive swimming. Dry land training was the best!

In university I started aerobic and step classes, but I soon graduated to weights. What a rush!! I was hooked!! I competed in a local bar in Venus Swimwear competitions and I did some fit modelling and body doubling. After trying a boxercise class and needing a new goal, I focused on boxing. I won my 1st fight for Sully’s Gym and I went on to win the silver as a welterweight in the Ontarios. I retired from boxing to get married. I continued the fitness training until the day I delivered each one of my three boys. Credit for a quick return to my fit shape must be given to natural home delivery and full dedication to the gym.

After leaving my marriage I decided to pursue my passion professionally. Through a program at Seneca College for fitness leadership and Canfit I became certified.

2. Who has inspired you the most to succeed as a Fitness Competitor?

Tosca Reno, whom I have met once has been a big inspiration in my life.

3. What competitions have you made appearances in? From these, what were your placements (titles won)?

When I turned 35, I needed a new goal. I decided to try fitness modelling with FAME and I was hooked. Since then I have done figure tall and masters in Ontario Physique Association and masters in IDFA, placing 2nd in figure. After following advice from TOSCA RENO whom I met backstage in November 2009 I took some time off.

In November 2010, I placed second in the Fitness Star Model Search World Championship. I will be competing September 17, 2011 with Fitness Star Network in Toronto.

4. When is your next upcoming show? What will be your competing class?

Since the Ontario Physique Association now offers bikini masters, I will go back to my first love and compete September 24, 2011 in Hamilton, Ontario.

5. Where can fans find out more about you (website, published magazines, etc.)?

I work full-time in my own business, Mercedes Fitness, and I have my own website, www.mercedesfitness.ca. My clients range in age from 20 to 83 years. Four of my girls and one guy are strutting their stuff in competitions this fall. Two have begun modeling careers.

My life has no off season!! I am healthy inside and out 24/7. Being a single mom, I understand how hard it is ‘to do it all’, but as a truly fabulous friend says I am “too blessed to be stressed”. I love my life because I am writing my own script.
