Is there a way to slow aging down naturally and produce a longer, youthful lifespan? I truly believe there is. Anti-aging methods are by the thousands in this world today, and as fitness girls, we want ways to keep ourselves looking as youthful as possible as we age.
Let’s forget for a moment all the crazy methods on anti-aging creams, supplements, hormones and surgeries, and let’s take a look at a few natural and simple ways to prolong life and youth.
Here are four easy methods to attack aging naturally
1. Lift those dumbbells!
First and foremost, is resistance training. I cannot stress this enough. When we reach the age of 25, research shows a decline in our metabolism. Muscle uses energy, and if we allow our bodies to lose muscle mass, then the metabolism naturally declines as well. This means weight gain can come very easily, especially during long periods of inactivity.
One of the biggest benefits of resistance training is boosting the
metabolism through muscle gains.
The more muscle we have, the more calories we burn at rest. This also means your basal metabolic rate will increase, which means you can eat more. Now that is a bonus!
2. Get your zzzz’s
Studies have shown that the lack of proper sleep can lead to weight
Most people eat more when they are over-tired, and when you are lacking sleep, the body slows the rate of calories burned throughout the day.
Sleep deprivation can also increase disease like diabetes and heart disease; and in addition, constant fatigue causes stress and irritability, which in turn can contribute to accelerated aging. A few tips on getting more sleep: sleep with no electronics and start going to bed 20 minutes earlier everyday to adjust your body’s sleeping cycle.
3. Healthy Nutrition
Having a poor diet can cause inflammation in the body. Avoiding foods high in sugar is one step to decrease chances of inflammation.
Studies show that the average North American consumes 23 grams of sugar in a single day!
Having a diet high in sugar will increase insulin levels in the body and having excess insulin can lead to insulin resistance, which can cause diabetes and inflammation.
Foods like avocado, kale, spinach, blueberries, papaya, pineapples and coconut are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. If you are a sugar junkie, then eating healthy fruits may help you curb your sugar cravings.
Choose foods wisely when shopping at your local grocery store, staying away from the inside aisles where all the processed and sugary foods are hanging out and fill your basket with fresh produce instead.
4. Drink Up!
Our body is made up of 80% water, and water is very beneficial for our health and our skin. Water brightens our complexion and rejuvenates skin tissue by bringing moisture to our entire body. Something as simple as drinking more water can stop signs of aging at an early age.
I carry my water everywhere I go, and I make it a point to drink 3-4 liters per day.
Water is the best way to help our body with cell reproduction and as we age, our bodies need more help to regenerate cells.
These are simple and effective ways to reduce the aging process. Little changes that we make today can make a big difference in our appearance and overall health. Start now and give it time, one day you will be amazed at the reflection looking back at you.
