Could you briefly share with us your background, interests and some of your current projects?

My name is Lisamarie Benito, I was born in Brooklyn, New York but grew up in  Miami, Florida.

My ethnic background is Hispanic. My dad is from Cuba and my mom  is from Costa Rica. I have three brothers of which I’m the only female. I went  to Miami Sunset High School,  then Florida International University where I  majored in Criminal Justice. I’ve been employed with Customs and Border Protection since 2003.

As far as bodybuilding goes I’m fairly new to this industry. Beginning in 2007 I began my weight loss journey after being over 170 pounds and at 35% body fat. I began with boot camps and taking zumba classes but after almost 3 years I found that my body plateaued. I was not seeing any results.

Last year in September I was introduced to my current coach Sam Yehia through my younger brother. He owns a private gym studio called, “Pro Body Tech” in Kendall, Florida. I came to him at 175 pounds and 35% body fat. The reason I came to him was because I was tired of being in a plateau and wanted to lose weight and tone up. From day one when Sam first saw me he asked me if I had ever thought of competing in bodybuilding. To be honest I didn’t know anything about the sport.

After a couple of months and attending a bodybuilding show in which he competed in and won his division, over 40 and overall. I told him that I wanted to take him up on his offer to guide me to compete in my first bodybuilding contest.

That was last September, I began to bulk up and train to compete. I began my contest diet this past July and I competed on October 29th, 2011 as a heavy weight in Women’s Open Bodybuilding.

The hardest part of the diet for me was the carb depletion on the last week. I hated having no energy but when I got on stage all the sacrifice of a 16 week strict diet paid off because I placed 2nd and that qualified me to compete in Nationals.

I’m still amazed at how much I have achieved in such a short period of time, but I know that I could not have done it without my coach.

Could you share with us who has inspired you the most to compete as a Female Bodybuilder?

I would say the person that has inspired me the most as a bodybuilding competitor is Yaexeni Oriquen. She is a Latina like myself and I really look up to her she is in the top rankings in female bodybuilding and I hope to be up there one day.

When is your next scheduled competition to take place, and what will be your competing class?

My next competition is going to be 2012 NPC National Bodybuilding Championships one year from now in Miami Beach, Florida. My coach wants me to take a year to gain mass so that I can compete with bodybuilders that are more experienced than myself and have been competing for years to obtain their Pro Card. That is my ultimate goal. My more immediate goal is obtaining a sponsorship. I feel I would represent any supplement company well.
