Leanna – Figure and Bikini Athlete

I know Leanna personally from a few competitions and she has a killer body! I am quite shocked that she has not turned pro yet, but I am sure it’s coming very soon.

1. Briefly share with us your background (Education, Interests, etc.)?

I have always been a very active person and was a tomboy growing up. After graduating from high school my love affair with the gym and weights started.

At the gym I learned a lot from ex boyfriends but I was always trying to keep up and out do them so my body became bulky from low reps and heavy weight.

I then started to buy fitness magazines such as Oxygen, Fitness Rx and Muscle and Fitness Hers. I have probably purchased every issue of Oxygen over the past 15 years ( I don’t want to mention the cost, Lol). I learned a lot from reading these magazines about diet and exercise.

After years of training I seemed to gain muscle easily and eventually I had random people come up to me while at the gym or on vacation and ask what I was training for. It made me think what could I train for? All I knew about competing was bodybuilding and I had no idea there were other categories, especially for women.

So I looked further into it and have become addicted to competing. I went and hired a trainer and studied to get my own personal training certificate. I then realized with proper training and nutrition I could look like those girls in the magazines!

I am still getting it all down to a science and figuring out what works best for my body.

2. Who has inspired you the most to succeed as a Fitness Competitor?

Over the years I have been inspired by Alicia Marie, Monica Brant, Ava Cowan, Jamie Eason, Pauline Nordine as well as Nicole Wilkins Lee.

Also I have been inspired by local girls who have done well, built great physiques and have great attitudes.

I also inspire myself when I see the transformations with my own body!

3. What competitions have you made appearances in? From these, what were your placements (titles won)?

Over the past 2 years I have competed in:

  • 2009 Western Canadians figure short 3th
  • 2009 BC Championships figure short 4th
  • 2009 CBBF figure short 8th
  • 2009 WBFF Worlds figure short 4th
  • 2010 Western Canadians figure short 1st
  • 2010 Western Canadians figure masters 1st
  • 2010 BC Championships figure short 2nd
  • 2010 FemSport 2nd
  • 2010 WBFF figure short 2nd
  • 2010 WBFF fitness model 9th
  • 2011 WBFF fitness model 4th
  • 2011 WBFF fitness model masters 2nd
  • 2011 INBF Best Body 2nd
  • 2011 INBF figure short 2nd

4. When is your next upcoming show? What will be your competing class?

I am currently deciding on my next show and possibly losing some muscle and trying the bikini category. I feel in figure I naturally cannot get big enough to compete at the National level or higher. I will be seeking some advice and go from there.

5. Where can fans find out more about you (website, published magazines, etc.)?

If anyone wanted to get to know more about me they could go to my Facebook page at Leanna.

Otherwise I appreciate this interview as it was the first time I have been acknowledged like this.

I wanted to share one quote that keeps me going when I think maybe I should stop competing…
