Jennifer Hennessey – Figure Athlete

This mom, veterinarian and now figure athlete has made amazing transformations to her body. Even though Jennifer is a very busy woman, she still made time for her health and fitness, and is slowly conquering the fitness world!

1. Briefly share with us your background (Education, Interests, etc.)?

I am writing to share my story of conquering enormous obstacles to become a fit mom after completing an 8 month body transformation.

I am a full time mom (my day job!) and also hold a full time job (the night job – emergency veterinarian). I graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 and have been a full-time emergency veterinarian ever since.

I spend any “me time” also working on the side a veterinary journalist and doing veterinarian lecturing; and when weather permits I ride and show.

I decided this year to find time to shed my “mom/veterinarian” body through serious diet/nutrition coaching to obtain not just a leaner figure, but try to become extraordinarily fit…to compete in bodybuilding/Figure competitions!

I have a background in equestrian sports, not bodybuilding or anything similar! 🙂  I literally work overnight (6p-8a), come home to care for my 2 and 4 year olds all day, then go back to work  and do this for 4 week days…notice there is no bedtime in that schedule. 🙂

I love the challenge of spending time (vs a caregiver doing it) with my kids while also honoring my veterinarian obligations. Somehow, I have been able to work in 2-3 hours/day of exercise and training (done kid-side at home and at the local YMCA) for the past 8 months.

If that wasn’t challenging enough, I also had to focus about 2hr every 3rd day to cooking my food for the week and had to organize a structured (nutritionist driven) meal plan of eating every 2-3 hours!

2. Who has inspired you the most to succeed as a Fitness Competitor?

The first time I came across the sport of Figure Competing online (Dec 2010), I started looking at pics of the Pros and have been super motivated by Erin Stern; I also admire Cheryl Brown as she was recently worked at my nutritionists office and is an amazing mom and athlete!!

3. What competitions have you made appearances in? From these, what were your placements (titles won)?

My very first time to step on stage was April 2nd 2011 at the REAL Deep South show which was at my 90 day completion of P90X and 8 weeks after dieting clean:

  • Placed 3rd in REAL Beauty/Bikini
  • Placed 5th in Figure/Novice

Just completed my 2nd show – Optimum Nutrition Lone Star by REAL on August 20th 2011 (my original goal) show for this years transformation and the stepping stone for further progress as a Figure athlete and fitness model:

  • 1st place Figure/Novice
  • 1st place Fitness Model
  • Won the Rising Star Award by REAL
  • Won a fitness model Photo-shoot with Michael David Photography
  • Crowned the new inspirational athlete for the 2011 “I Decide” campaign with Michael David Photography

4. When is your next upcoming show? What will be your competing class?

Planning for an NPC show in Spring, possibly the Ronnie Coleman Classic; will be competing in Figure

5. Where can fans find out more about you (website, published magazines, etc.)?

Feature will be in November 2011 issue of Muscle & Body Magazine

Aslo, a testimonial is being designed by Beachbody and expected to be released soon!
