This months Spotlight is on Sandy Avelar, an IFBB Pro out of Canada previously featured on the site.
I must say, Sandy has put in some work … and she’s ready to capture 2012 as her year.
Catch-up with Sandy and see what she’s been up to …
Reflecting on 2011, what were your Biggest Challenges and your Biggest Achievements?
2011 was such a big year for me! I only dreamed that I would earn my IFBB Pro Card! That dream became a reality!
Another great achievement was signing with Magnum Nutraceuticals and becoming a Magnum Athlete. I used their products long before signing with them and I really believe in them.
I also became the spokeswoman for Sheepdogs, Inc and the Get Fit or Die campaign. Its a line of clothing for military and police and supporters alike.
The biggest challenges have actually been blessings. I’m learning how to balance two careers with real life. I’m learning everyday!
Could you briefly share with us what your plans/goals are for 2012 as an IFBB Pro?
I’m working with Darren Mehling of Freak Fitness in order to bring an amazing package to the stage! I’ll be 150% on point for the Toronto Pro on June 1 and 2, 2012.
I’m also looking into a few more shows throughout the year. My decisions will be based on my schedule. When I decide to do a show, its game time!
What opportunities have come your way since becoming Pro?
So many opportunities have come my way. I’ve met great people with great ideas.
I have a few projects in the works…stay tuned! It’s very exciting!
What challenges have you faced in balancing work with new obligations?
I work and volunteer a lot of my time to at-risk youth. I always want to give as much of my time as I can.
The biggest challenge is keeping up and not disappointing anyone.
I sacrifice sleep, if need be!
This is going to be a big year. I want to show people that I have two very real careers and I balance them. It isn’t always easy, but it can be done!
I want to be someone that everyone can relate to. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and answering any questions they may have!
