Sandy Avelar – 2011 Canadian IFBB Pro

Sandy Avelar – If you don’t know about Sandy…then you have been missing out! She has just joined the Elite Ranks as an IFBB Pro.

Here’s what Sandy had to tell us in her own words…

1. Briefly share with us your background (Education, Interests, etc.)?

I’m a Police Officer. I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a BA in Psychology and I also graduated from BCIT in Forensic Science. I have a brown belt in kickboxing. I love to read. I also run a group for at-risk teenaged girls.

2. Who has inspired you the most to succeed as a Fitness Competitor?

My inspiration to compete has come from the women around me. Local pros and competitors alike. I have meet so many wonderful people and am inspired by each of them in different ways!

3. What competitions have you made appearances in? From these, what were your placements (titles won)?

I started out in figure. I placed 2nd in the Sandra Wickham Fall Classic in 2007. I went on to compete in Figure at the 2009 BC Provincial Championships. I took a 2-year break and re-evaluated the process. I competed in Bikini at the 2011 BC Provincial Championships, where I placed 1st. I competed a week later at the CBBF Canadian National Championships where I won 1st place and overall, making me a new IFBB Pro!

4. When is your next upcoming show? What will be your competing class?

I’ll be competing next year, making my Pro debut at the Toronto Pro Show in Bikini!
